Lea & Simon’s Coral Pink Summer Wedding at Selden Barns

When Lea spotted an advert for our wedding showcase on social media, she and Simon decided to “just pop along and have a look” – never intending to actually fall in love with the venue and book it. But as Lea walked into the reception barn, that’s exactly what happened.
A Christmas Day Proposal
Lea and Simon’s love story began online, leading to a beautifully thoughtful proposal on Christmas Day 2023. Hosting Christmas lunch for their children and parents, Simon surprised everyone by insisting he’d dress the table that year – complete with handmade crackers. “I did wonder why he was so eager for us to pull the crackers as soon as we sat down!” Lea laughs. Hidden inside her cracker was an engagement ring, and surrounded by their loved ones, she said yes straight away.
Finding The One
After visiting another venue on the same day, Lea and Simon knew they’d found something special at Selden Barns. “As soon as we walked into the reception barn I fell in love, then walking into the ceremony room we knew it’s where we wanted to get married,” Lea recalls. What set us apart? “The other venue wasn’t as warm and spacious, and didn’t have the accommodation.”
For Lea, the decision was sealed the moment she stepped inside: “I’m a sucker for fairy lights and loved that they were everywhere!” The venue’s room decor, accessibility, on-site accommodation and scenery ticked all their boxes.
Simple Yet Romantic
True to their vision of “simple yet romantic,” Lea and Simon designed a wedding in beautiful shades of coral pink. “I hate too much fuss, so I loved the simple and clean flower displays and table decor,” Lea explains. The couple added their own personal touches by dressing the tables themselves and creating their own signage using withjoy.com.
Working with talented local suppliers, they brought their vision to life: stunning florals from Fleurs of Horsham, a barely-there frosted Victoria sponge adorned with flowers by Cakesbyashleigh, and delicious comfort food from The Gourmet Chef. “Sausage and mash was our main meal – we wanted something simple and pleasing for all,” and their guests certainly appreciated the hearty, crowd-pleasing choice.
A Day to Remember
The ceremony in our barn was filled with meaningful music. As their children walked down the aisle to “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” followed by the bridesmaids and Lea to “From This Moment On,” there wasn’t a dry eye in the house. The couple’s most emotional moment? “Trying to say my vows without crying,” Lea admits.
The celebration continued with beautiful photography by Natasha Wynn of NJW Photography, capturing every special moment. Entertainment came from Muttley the DJ, while guests enjoyed wooden garden games throughout the evening.
But the most touching moment came during their first dance. Instead of a traditional recording, one of Lea’s bridesmaids sang “Someone Like You” from the musical Jekyll & Hyde – a song Lea had performed at a concert, and the first time Simon ever heard her sing.
The Atmosphere
“Everyone loved it,” Lea shares. “It was lovely to see so many people who haven’t seen each other for years catching up and chatting all night.” When asked about guest feedback, the response was clear: they loved the venue and the on-site accommodation.
Looking back on their day, when asked what the best part was, Lea’s answer was simple: “Marrying my husband.” And would they relive it? “All of it.”
Their Advice
