Some love stories begin with friendship, and Liam and Jodie’s is one of those beautiful tales. After years of friendship, during which they’d often chat about their dream weddings, their relationship blossomed into something more. It turns out they’d been dreaming of the same future all along.

A Romantic Roman Proposal

When it came time to propose, Liam chose the perfect setting – a rustic Italian restaurant in the heart of Rome. Surrounded by the eternal city’s timeless romance, he asked Jodie to be his wife, creating a proposal story as memorable as their friendship-turned-romance.

Finding ‘THE Feeling’

Like many modern couples, Liam and Jodie began their venue search on Google, looking for barn weddings in Sussex. Selden Barns was the first venue they viewed, and whilst they went on to visit two others – a pub wedding venue and another barn – nothing compared to what they felt at Selden Barns.

“It was the only one that gave us ‘THE feeling,'” Jodie explains. “We were able to visualise our big day just by viewing a blank canvas.” That intangible something that makes you just know – they found it here, and everything else fell into place.

Their first impression went beyond just the beautiful venue itself. “The staff are so well trained, knowledgeable and friendly, the venue was immaculate and kept to a high standard,” Jodie recalls. “It was perfect overall for what we wanted, even down to the breakfast with the brilliant and funny chef the next morning.”

Summer Romance in Blues and Greys

Liam and Jodie’s vision was rustic yet elegant, inspired by the venue itself and the beautiful summer season. Their colour palette of light blue, dark blue, and grey created a sophisticated, summery feel that perfectly complemented Selden Barns’ natural beauty.

Jodie found her dress at Wed2B, accessorised with bespoke jewellery created by a talented friend who also made pieces for the entire bridal party – a personal touch that made everyone feel special. Her five bridesmaids looked stunning in floaty, summery Babaroni dresses purchased online, perfect for a July celebration.

Liam and his five groomsmen looked sharp in country-smart attire from Greys Suit Hire in Worthing. Liam’s grey and blue check suit was complemented by matching pocket square and tie, creating a look that was both sophisticated and relaxed – exactly right for their rustic elegant theme.

An Alfresco ‘I Do’

Taking full advantage of the glorious summer weather, Liam and Jodie chose to marry outdoors. As Jodie walked down the aisle to traditional music, it was the most emotional moment of the day. The ceremony concluded with the couple’s exit to “Miles On It,” marking the beginning of their new chapter together.

One of the day’s funniest moments? “Not being able to walk closely to my husband due to my dress skirt!” Jodie laughs. But when asked about the best part of the day, her answer is simple and heartfelt: “Saying I Do and thankfully, it didn’t rain!”

Personal Touches That Made It Theirs

Liam and Jodie infused their celebration with thoughtful personal elements. A French entrance added continental flair, whilst the shoe game had guests roaring with laughter during the reception. Breaking with tradition, they served their wedding cake – a delicious white chocolate and raspberry creation alongside carrot cake from Crumbs Cake and Brownies – as dessert after their two-course meal.

A Perfect Summer Celebration

The reception began with Pimm’s and Prosecco on the lawn – quintessentially British and absolutely perfect for a summer’s day. Guests enjoyed wine with their meal, catered beautifully by Adam at Hardings Catering, before the evening bar opened for continued celebrations.

Their first dance to “This Song Is For You” was particularly special – Liam chose it because it perfectly resembled their relationship. DJ Paul Fish Productions kept the atmosphere lively throughout the evening, whilst the couple arrived in style courtesy of a stunning Rolls Royce.

The atmosphere throughout the day was exactly what they’d hoped for: “Perfect! Chilled! Full of laughter and memories,” Jodie beams.

Would They Do It All Again?

When asked what she’d relive, Jodie’s response says it all: “The whole day again, please! haha” Looking back, she wouldn’t change a single thing.

Her advice for future couples is enthusiastic and heartfelt: “Go for it! You won’t regret it, will be hands down the best day of your life.”

Guest feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with everyone amazed by both the venue and the organisation. As Jodie notes, the Selden Barns team was “perfect with every single fine detail, right from start to finish.”
